CHAMPAIGN, Ill.-With 14:41 remaining in the game, Chicago State cut Illinois' lead to nine points. Before the Cougars couldget any closer, the FightingIllini stepped upits performance and outscored Chicago State44-14 the rest of the way.
After the Cougars scored the game's first two points, Illinois took the lead and held on to defeat Chicago State 89-50 Wednesday night before 14,101 fans at the Assembly Hall.
Mike Tisdale led Illinois (9-1)with 25 points. Trent Meacham (14 points), Mike Davis (11) and Demetri McCamey (10) also reached double figures.
David Holson led the Cougars (3-5) with 17 points.
Illinois returns to the Assembly Hall Dec. 20 against Detroit.
