CHAMPAIGN, IL.- Illinois jumped out to a 39-26 halftime lead over the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors Monday, which provided more than enough cushion for the Fighting Illini to hold on to the team's eighth victory this season.
Chester Frazier and Dominique Keller led the team with 14 points each, and Illinois (8-1) defeated Hawaii 68-58 before 14,303 fans at the Assembly Hall.
Frazier hit four 3-pointers and Trent Meacham added two more from long range.
The key to the game was turnovers. The Illini defense forced 22 Hawaii turnovers, which led to 28 points. This came two days after causing a season-high 28 takeaways against Georgia Saturday at the United Center in Chicago.
Mike Davis added 10 points for Illinois. The Rainbow Warriors' (3-3) Petras Balocka led all scorers with 21 points, and teammate Roderick Flemings added 14 points.
Illinois returns to the Assembly Hall Wednesday to take on Chicago State and concludes a three game home stand on December 20 against Detroit.
