Kansas City, MO (KMOV) -- Well they say that late is better than never and Mizzou's first first down fits that description, followed closely by a 30-yard catch-and-run by Jeremy Maclin and some strong runs by Derek Washington. It seems pretty obvious that the return of Coffman to the lineup for this drive has had an immediate impact.
Am I psychic or what?
Coffman gets the first touchdown for Missouri on a third-and-goal play from the Kansas 5-yard-line. It was a routine play for Daniel and Coffman all year, but one that wasnt available with the all-star tight end on the sideline. Coffmans replacement, Andrew Jones, has struggled so far and received a lot of targets from Daniel on those first unsuccessful drives.
Missouri's defense has finally started to get to Reesing, and after allowing a good drive they cash in with a sack on third down. Chants of M-I-Z-Z-O-U rock the stadium, although only half is filled with Tiger fans. Im betting the Jayhawks are wishing that K-A-N-S-A-S sounded as cool.
Kansas gets a safety on Daniel, who has not looked sharp in this game. Many expected Missouri to play loose in the game with the lack of pressure on them to perform, but Daniel at least has looked like he is trying to make too much happen.
The Mizzou defense is huddling up in anticipation of taking the field following the safety, jumping in a circle and hitting each other, getting fired up. Justin Garrett and Will Weatherspoon are at the center of the fray, trying to the get the unit ready to go. The emotional charge pays off immediately with a big tackle for a loss of Kansas running back Jake Sharp.
As the end of the half nears and Kansas holds on to its 12-point lead, the press box is buzzing with surprise. The overwhelming expectation coming into this game was a blowout by Mizzou, but the game has gone almost completely in the other direction. Daniel has looked close to awful in this first half, overthrowing receivers, turning the ball over, and making uncharacteristic mistakes in reading the defense. The offensive line hasn't kept Kansas out of his face, either, a big factor in his ineffectiveness this half.
