(KMOV)- The closing of the Hampton Avenue overpass is causing unexpected problems for some drivers. MoDot said after two days it's seen a few trouble spots.
MoDot's asking drivers to spread out the rush hour from traveling outside the peak morning or evening rush hour times.
One critical area they've identified as seeing extra traffic is from drivers using Jamieson to Arsenal to McCausland to go north instead of using Hampton.
Heavy demand is causing back-ups, especially between 7:30 and 8:30 in the morning.
News 4 also asked MoDot to comment on the shift in traffic patterns come January when the 2nd half of the project begins and 64 is shut down from 170 to Kingshighway.
MoDot said if the first half is completed before the December 31st deadline they won't waste time.
They'll shut down the highway from 170 to Kingshighway and begin the second half.
But right now they can't make any projects on a completion date for the first half.
