Zook: 3 key problems cost Illini in Missouri loss

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Ron Zook believes three key things went wrong in Illinois' 52-42 loss to Missouri Saturday.

The Illini coach says his players didn't tackle well, and defensively he and his coaches tried to do too many different things to slow down the No. 6 Tigers' high-powered offense.

And third, in Zook's view, his team paid too much attention to the flattery of football writers and their place in national polls.

As a result, Illini gave up 549 yards of offense.

They also dropped in The Associated Press poll, from 20 to 24.

Zook says all of the Illini's problems can and will be fixed.

They look for their first win Saturday against Eastern Illinois, a Championship Subdivision team from just down the road in Charleston, Illinois.
