ST. LOUIS (AP/KMOV) -- The Missouri Department of Transportation and Gateway Constructors gave an update today on the opening of the west half of the Interstate 64 project in the St. Louis area.
The I-64 project will reopen to traffic on Monday Dec. 15.
"We are thrilled to be ready to reopen the western section of I-64 ahead of schedule," said MoDOT District Engineer Ed Hassinger.
The east half of I-170 to Kingshighway will close simultaneously before morning rush on Dec. 15 then will remain closed through Dec. 31, 2009.
The public is invited to view the new highway before it reopens to traffic. An opening celebration is set for Sunday, Dec. 14 from Noon to 3 p.m. The eastbound lanes will be open from Ballas to Brentwood with pedestrian access at any interchange.
The offical ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 2:30 on I-64 between McCutcheon and Brentwood.
