(KMOV) -- A man is accused of shooting at St. Louis police with an assault rifle.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. on Friday in the 1100 block of St. Charles.

According to police this all started when officers were standing outside their marked police cars on the corner of St. Charles and Tucker.

The officers were trying to cross the street to break up a fight happening in a parking lot.

That's when police say that a man fired shots in the officers' direction.

The officers took cover and were not hit.

The suspect took off in a newer model, gray Pontiac Grand Prix with tinted windows.

Police are still searching for the suspect.
