The Better Business Bureau says everytime there is a disaster, the scam artists come out of the woodwork. It is hard to imagine anyone so awful they would try to rip off people aiding the Gulf cleanup, but the BBB says its so. Some advice from the agency:
*Know to whom you're giving - research the charity yourself, or use the BBB's charity information service.
*Beware of well intentioned but inexperienced organizations.
*Know where your money is going - is it earmarked for the Gulf or just going to support all the programs.
*Keep checking - as this disaster evolves for years to come there will be additional ways to help.
