(KMOV) – Scam artists going door-to-door in the Metro East are posing as AmerenIP workers, and are looking to get social security numbers, and checking account numbers to steal identities and money.
One confirmed report occurred in Roxana, Illinois.
The scammers reportedly call customers saying they are with customer service and asking for payment on demand. They also reportedly show up at customers’ homes dressed in work clothes looking for information.
As a policy, AmerenIP says they do not try to collect payment over the phone or in person. They say if anyone encounters suspicious behavior, they should contact Ameren and police right away.
