The St. Louis Fire Department is the latest to have to shave millions from its budget.
On Wednesday, union officials learned the department will be forced to operate with a $72.3 million budget; instead of the $74.3 million they hoped for. Currently, the department has a $69 million budget.
Union leaders warned today that these cuts could lead to two fire houses closing. Typically, each fire house has 15 employees.
The new fiscal year begins July 1st. The fire chief is expected to submit a new $72 million to the mayor soon.
