A Cahokia woman accused of severely abusing a pit bull puppy and leaving it for dead in a dumpster is on trial in St. Clair County for animal abuse. Her name is Tracia L Johnson.
But the real name worth thinking about here is "Tommy." He's the dog who not only survived but is now living a pretty good life on eight acres with some nice owners.
Tommy, hiw owners and several other human friends are outside the St. Clair County Courthouse in Belleville holding up signs showing pictures of what Tommy looked like in the dumpster when he was rescued. They're letting passers-by know what's going on inside the courthouse and letting everyone know they want justice for this dog.
It was nice to get a sniff and a lick from a survivor. No such luck last week in Jefferson County while covering the Mary Wild trial. Seven of the dogs she was "caring" for died in her hot van. Mary was convicted on eight counts of animal abuse as one of the dogs survived.
While Mary was careless (an understatement I know) what this woman Tracia is accused of doing is even harder to understand because she allegedly violently abused this dog and tossed it in a dumpster. Unreal.
The scary thing is, according to one of the demonstrators, Tracia has a child. I wonder how the child is treated and beyond that, what kind of adult this child will grow up to be. None of my business at this point I guess, but it's on my mind.
