(KMOV) – Residents of Elmwood were in a state of disbelief following the tornadoes that devastated parts of Illinois on Saturday.
As people came down to look at the damage along Main Street in Elmwood, Illinois, they could hardly believe what they were seeing.
Brick buildings that housed small businesses no longer have windows or walls. The streets are blocked off, and only business owners are allowed in to clean up.
The devastation along just a couple of blocks is overwhelming.
No one was seriously injured.
The tornado seemed to miss homes, but was relentless in its destruction to buildings, some of which have stood for more than 100 years.
The clean up in Elmwood could take weeks, if not months. Some estimate that as much as 80 percent of the buildings downtown will have to be torn down and rebuilt.
