(KMOV) – Police are investigating a double homicide that happened Saturday night in Black Jack, Mo., involving a state attorney general employee.
Police said 47-year-old Tyrone Thompson was shot and killed in what police said was a robbery. Police said Thompson was waiting in his SUV to pick up a friend when two teenagers walked up to the car. One of the teens pulled out a gun, then Thompson did and they exchanged fire. One of the suspects, 18-year-old Jakeem Hicks, was shot and killed.
A second suspect was wounded last night. He is out of the hospital and being questioned by police.
Nearby residents heard the shots and called police. Hicks was spotted by police stumbling down the street about a few houses away from Thompson's SUV. Hicks collapsed and died at the scene. Thompson was found near his car and died in the hospital.
Authorities say Thompson worked as a consumer fraud investigator for the state attorney general's office. They say he is also a former University City police officer, and former chief of police in Pagedale. Thompson is also the son of former State Rep. Betty Thompson.
Thompson leaves behind three children.
