(KMOV) -- If you've spent any time outside lately, you've probably been bitten a couple of times by mosquitos.
There seem to be more mosquitos out than usual, and health officials agree. In recent days, people in Wildwood, Chesterfield and Florissant flooded the department with calls for help.
Crews should be out to spray an extra large amount in those areas, but until they do, it's back to bug spray and homemade remedies such as vanilla extract. Most insects don't like the smell, so apply dabs on your wrists, neck and behind the ears. Or you can try lavender from your garden, which mosquitos also dislike.
If you have any homemade remedies of your own, feel free to post them in our comments.
