(KMOV) – One local driver is to blame for an accident that sent two highway construction workers to the hospital on Tuesday night.
Police say the workers were putting construction cones down on Interstate 55 northbound near State Route 159 in Collinsville around midnight Wednesday when a women talking on her cell phone crashed, sending debris flying towards the two workers.
Both workers were treated and released from the hospital and the driver refused medical treatment.
The driver will likely face charges of using a cell phone in a construction zone, as well as for breaking Scott’s Law, a recent law passed making drivers move to the left lane when they see emergency vehicles on the highway.
Violators of Scott’s Law can face a fine of $10,000 and lose their license for two years.
