Israeli controversy sparks local demonstrations

(KMOV) – Israel is kicking out some of the almost 700 activists it detained during a raid on an aid ship.

Those activists were trying to cross a naval blockade to deliver aid to Palestinians. Israel and Egypt have agreed to ease that blockage.

The Obama administration is stopping short of criticizing Israel for the raid that killed nine of those activists.

The controversy sparked demonstrations on Tuesday in front of Senator Claire McCaskill’s office in west St. Louis.

Supporters of the Israeli government lined one side of the street, while people in the median protested the Israeli blockade of Gaza.

While the demonstrators at times shouting at each other, the protests did remain peaceful.
