(KMOV)-- A 49-year-old man is hospitalized after a tugboat was caught in an undertow in the Mississippi River in north St. Louis.
This happened around 3 p.m. Tuesday at the foot of Humboldt.
The St. Louis Fire Department told News 4 they got a call about a person in the water. Two employees for Alberici Construction were working on linking two barges together when their tugboat was caught in an undertow.
One man managed to jump from the boat onto a barge platform before the boat went under.
Dan Eilerman was sucked under with the tugboat. He resurfaced and Dean Presley and Steve Christian with Humboldt Boat Service picked him up. He was taken to a local hospital. Authorities said he was alert and conscious, but still coughing up a lot of water.
