(KMOV) – A former East St. Louis police officer was sentenced to probation Tuesday after pleading guilty to a civil rights offense.
Antonio McWherter, 47, of Shiloh, Illinois was sentenced to three years probation and four months of house arrest following a civil rights violation in January 2006. McWherter struck the victim in the mouth without legal justification while on duty.
As part of his plea agreement, McWherter immediately resigned from the East St. Louis Police Department and agreed not to seek any future employment in law enforcement.
He was also fined $5,000 and ordered to pay restitution to the victim.
