JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Republican U.S. Senate candidate Chuck Purgason has a new look.
Purgason has stopped wearing a hair piece -- publicly revealing his receding hairline for the first time in a couple decades.
Purgason, who celebrated his 50th birthday last month, says he and his wife decided it's time for him to look "more mature and middle-aged." He says the change isn't intended as a makeover for his Senate campaign.
Purgason, a state senator from southern Missouri, is one of several candidates appealing to tea party activists in the Republican U.S. Senate primary. Congressman Roy Blunt is leading the Republican field. Secretary of State Robin Carnahan is the leading Democratic candidate.
Incumbent Republican Kit Bond is retiring after 24 years in the Senate.
