McLEANSBORO, Ill. (AP) -- A southern Illinois eighth-grader has been charged as an adult in the alleged sexual assault of two other children.
Hamilton County prosecutors charged the 15-year-old junior high school student with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault.
Investigators say he's suspected of inappropriate sexual contact between March 1 and April 27 with two children under the age of nine.
The teenager is jailed in Franklin County's juvenile detention center on $100,000 bond.
Hamilton County State's Attorney Justin Hood says he charged the suspect as an adult to ensure his court records aren't sealed if he's convicted, as they are for those charged as juveniles. Hood also says more counseling is available to those charged as adults.
