(KMOV) – Nearly 50 arrests were made and about 50 warrants were issued Friday night in Washington Park after police instated roadside safety checkpoints.
Police say the emphasis for the safety checkpoints was safety belt usage for adults and children, and to reduce the number of drunk drivers on the road.
In addition to the checkpoints, street corner sweeps were conducted, along with knocks and talks at suspected drug houses.
Of the 5,400 residents in Washington Park, 930 have warrants. That's about 17 percent of the city's population.
