Late today St. Louis police announced Gebar Byrd Senior is charged with murdering his girlfriend and their son. Police tell us that on March 23 Byrd Senior pushed Yazmin Rodriguez, she was holding their son at the time, into the Mississippi River just south of the Chain of Rocks Bridge. Police he pushed them through branches, logs and mud.
A fisherman found Yazmin Rodriguez’s body on April 9th. Tonight, there is still no sign of two year old Gebar Byrd Junior.
Yazmin’s sister told me tonight that Byrd Senior confessed to the murders. She also said her family had a feeling all along that Byrd Senior was behind her sister’s death.
The Rodriguez family is not willing to believe Byrd Junior is dead. The family is optimistic he’ll be found alive in the near future.
Tonight, Byrd Senior is facing four charges, two counts of first degree murder, one count of endangering the welfare of a child and second degree domestic assault. The assault charge stems from an alleged attack on Yazmin in April of 2009.
Five weeks ago, Gebar Byrd Senior told News 4 he was worried about his son and was not involved with Byrd Junior disappearance or his girlfriend’s death.
