I'll use this opportunity to give you a reminder----highway construction season is upon us once again. Watch out in those construction zones and proceed with caution as you drive through.
I bring this up because today's story focused on a national shortage of the paint used to stripe the highways. Both MODOT and I-DOT are affected. They're having to prioritize which roads will get the stripes and in some cases the center lines will be striped while the outer edges won't be getting a fresh coat of paint.
The problem can be traced to a chemical that's used to make the paint durable and reflective. A plant fire a couple months ago affected the production of the chemical. In this economy there were other manufacturers but they cut back so there was no one to "take up the slack" when there was a shortage.
