Matheny to represent Cardinals at 2010 Draft

ST. LOUIS -- Former Cardinal, Mike Matheny, will add the task of representing the Redbirds at the 2010 First-Year Players Draft to his list of responsibilities, according to

Matheny returned to the Cardinals this year to serve as a special assistant and to aid in player development. Now, he will be floating around the minor leagues scoping out potential talent, helping in the front office and still helping with the team.

Matheny played as starting catcher for St. Louis from 2000-2004 and made it to the playoffs four times. Matheny was also a Golden Glover four times in his career, three of which came during his time with the Cardinals.
The draft will air live on beginning at 5 p.m. on June 7 and goes through June 9. The Cards have a 25th first-round pick, along with two supplemental picks at 46 and 50.
