(KMOV) – The Madison County Sheriff's Department announced a child abduction response team.A group of of 12 police officers, prosecutors, and children's advocates were trained by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Sheriff Bob Hertz said he doesn't remember a stranger-abduction happening in Madison County, but he wants to be prepared.
"What I want to make certain of, if and when that happens, we are going to be able to hit the ground running to find the child and prosecute them for that activity," he said.
Madison County officials will look for up to 300 civilian volunteers to help in search efforts if a child were abducted.
The sheriff's department will start an application process for volunteers in a few weeks.
