(KMOV) – Police say the report of an attempted abduction of a 7-year-old girl was the result of a young boy's joke.

According to police, the girl was in the front yard of a home in the 300 block of Juanita around 5 p.m. when a dark-colored sedan pulled into the driveway.

Police say a boy in the back seat opened up his door and asked the girl if she “wanted some candy.” Police say the boy was accompanied by a man wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt and a woman.

An adult couple saw a post on the Troy Police Department Facebook page and contacted authorities to tell them they believed they were the ones being sought.

They told police they were looking for a friend’s house and used the girl’s driveway to turn around. The boy, they say, was joking when he made a comment to her.

“At this time it is not believed there was any criminal intend and the juvenile was counseled on his behavior,” Troy Police Officer Tony Stewart said in a statement released Thursday.
