(KMOV) – A man is in police custody and accused of entering a woman’s home without permission as her teen daughter was inside and alone.
“I was more concerned about my 13-year-old daughter I didn't know what's missing or what. I didn't care at that moment,” the victim's mother said. “I was so scared even my youngest daughter in the car too she screamed for her name.”
The South County woman did want her identity revealed but told News 4’s Julian Johnson she went to pick up her daughter from a nearby bus stop and left her garage door open and teen daughter inside.
When she came back, a strange white truck blocked her driveway and a mysterious man exited her house.
"I asked him, ‘who you are looking for?'. He says he's looking for a guy named Brian Hughes,” she said.
But the man asking for Brian Hughes was actually Brian Hughes. Fearing the worst, the mother ran inside to check on her daughter.
She screamed out her name and found her in the bathroom. She didn’t know what was going on.
Using his license plate, officers eventually caught up and arrested Hughes on burglary charges.
He has past theft charges on his record but the motive behind this latest crime was unclear.
“We’re not sure what he was in there doing, if he was looking to steal things that all remains open,” said Officer Brian Schellman with St. Louis County Police.
Hughes is being held on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
