(KMOV.com) – Some are questioning the Belleville City Council's decision to approve funding for decorative lighting for the city’s 200th anniversary celebration.
Alderman Joe Hayden said the city should not have approved the $25,000 project because it has other important priorities.
"I equate this to going on vacation when you've got a hole in the roof. You've gotta fix the hole in the roof. Streets need to be fixed, improve police protection, that's where our priorities should be,” Hayden said.
The measure passed 9-7.
