ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Congresswoman Ann Wagner comes to St. Louis Thursday to promote new legislation that would make publishing online prostitution ads a felony crime.
The Republican representative from Ballwin is a sponsor of the Stop Advertising Victims of Exploitation Act. The law targets the website Backpage.com, the nation's top forum for thinly veiled references to prostitution since Craigslist shut down its adult services section in 2010.
Wagner is scheduled to discuss her bill at a 3 p.m. news conference at the Old Courthouse. Earlier this week, she was the keynote speaker at a national conference in St. Louis on sex trafficking, A key initiative of that effort is to pressure hotels to help track victims of sexual exploitation who may be using their rooms.
