(KMOV) – Police in Jefferson County have confirmed that a body found in the Meramec River is that of a missing Arnold man.
The body of 41-year-old John Pena was found Monday evening about a half-mile near the Flamm City Boat Ramp off Telegraph Rd.
According to police, the body lodged under a tree limb that had been submerged when crews originally searched the river last month.
Pena's family confirmed the identiy of the body based on tattoos. Police say they are investigating the incident as a suicide and do not suspect foul play.
Authorities say officers went to the Arnold home of Pena on Feb. 20 after his family called and asked for a well being check.
Police say Pena wasn’t home so they pinged his cell phone, which appeared to be located in the woods of a conservation area along the river.
Officers later found Pena’s truck off Rockwood Rd. near Telegraph Rd. at the Tezsars Woods Conservation area along the Meramec River. Police intially searched the area using K-9s and deployed search boats along the river to check the banks, but found nothing.
