(KMOV) -- The Illinois Department of Transportation is already out of money to repair pot holes and pot hole repair season doesn't even start until the end of March.

“At one point, we had folks potholing in all 11 counties in district 8 to keep the roads sealed up and keep them safe for the motoring public,” Joe Monroe of IDOT. “We’ve spent more this year than we did all last year.”

The department budgeted for $1.2 million to spend repairing potholes this winter and spring, but has already spent $1.5 million.

IDOT says they have already bought the necessary suppolies and now are working to rearrange the budget. The goal is to stretch the money until July, which is the start of the new fiscal year.

IDOT is asking drivers to notify them if they come across any potholes so the department can repair them.
