(KMOV) -- Police have identified a man who was found shot to death behind an apartment complex in north St. Louis Wednesday evening.

Police say 38-year-old Dion Stovall, of the 4400 block of Lee Ave., was found with multiple gunshot wounds inside a parked car behind the North Newstead Five Apartments in the 4100 block of Newstead Ave. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say a witness reported seeing someone firing numerous shots into Stovall's vehicle before fleeing the scene in an unknown direction.

Additional details on the suspect were not available.

The investigation is ongoing.
