(KMOV) – Authorities are investigating after a Bourbon, Mo. police officer shot and killed a man in Crawford County on Wednesday.
According to authorities, the officer tried to stop a driver in a Chevrolet Cavalier after recognizing it matched the description of a vehicle involved in a chase in Sullivan.
Police say the suspect refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. The chase made its way into Gasconade County and ended when the suspect drove back into Crawford County and crashed near the intersection of Rt. J and Fann Rd.
That’s when the officer shot the suspect, later identified as 50-year-old Gary Wenzel. Wenzel was pronounced dead at the scene. Further details were not released.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the shooting.
