Wentzville urging residents to sign-up as storm season nears

WENTZVILLE, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

With spring storms nearing, many communities are renewing efforts to get residents to sign up for emergency notifications.

Unfortunately, for those without landlines, additional steps are needed to sign up for alerts.

With the W.I.N.D. Emergency Notification System being used in Wentzville, any landline phone number that is listed automatically gets a call with alerts about sever weather.

With the amount of homes without a landline growing, the CDC says 41 percent of households have only wireless phones.

Currently, Wentzville has a population of 32,000, with about 5,000 people city-wide signing up for the W.I.N.D. alerts.

Wentzville is hoping to see that number grow and is urging its residents to sign-up for the updates by signing up online or registering at city hall.
