Affton office manager charged with stealing rent from tenants

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

According to police, an Affton apartment complex office manager stole nearly $10,000 from tenants in the form of rent checks, money orders and security deposits.

Brookside Village on Mackenzie Rd., like many apartment complexes, has residents pay rent on the first of the month at the front office.

Some residents are now saying that the money they put in the drop box disappeared without going towards their rent.

St. Louis County Police say an internal investigation at Brookside determined the office manager, Kathy Sprinkle, stole nearly $10,000 from tenants.

Sprinkle collected security deposits and rent from tenants.

"She would have me write the amount, but she would tell me the wrong place to sign it," said one tenant. "She made me become friends with her and trust that she was going to get my money to where it needed to go."

Sprinkle has been charged with felony stealing.
