Several local leaders and organizations made statements following the release of the findings from the Department of Justice's investigation into the Ferguson Police Department
On Wednesday, the Department of Justice released the findings of a civil rights investigation which found that officers in Ferguson disproportionately used excessive force against blacks and often charged them with petty offenses. The report alleges there is evidence of racial bias among officers and court workers in Ferguson.
In the report, the Department of Justice also said it would not prosecute former Ferguson officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown.
Michael T. McPhearson, the co-chair of the Don't Shoot Coalition, said the organization will continue “pursuing policy reform at the state and county levels until true and meaningful change is realized.”
Other civil rights leaders said they were shocked by the report's findings.
