Shaw neighborhood residents on alert after carjackings

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

After two women were carjacked last week in South City's Shaw neighborhood, area residents have shown concern about a recent spike in crimes against women.

Last Thursday, a 41-year-old woman was putting items in her car's backseat when two men approached her from behind, one of the men showing the victim a gun.

The woman was able to run to a nearby house unharmed, but the men drove away with her car. Her stolen car was found near the intersection of Texas and Chippewa later that night.

Just one mile away and three hours later, another woman was carjacked by three in the Compton Heights neighborhood. The victim was not hurt and two of the three suspects were apprehended but the third got away.

Police have not said whether or not the two carjackings are connected, but residents in the Shaw neighborhood are on alert either way.

Both of the incidents are still under investigation.
