(Missouri Football App) – With the Tigers on their bye week, who should Mizzou fans root for?
Georgia and Florida, sort of.
A victory by either team would greatly benefit Missouri. An upset by the Gators would hand South Carolina its third conference loss, which would mean the Tigers would only have to win one of their final two games to claim the SEC East.
A Georgia win would essentially (though not officially) guarantee the same thing. Mizzou holds the tiebreaker if it finds itself in a three-way tie with the Bulldogs and Gamecocks. Georgia currently has two conference losses; if it wins its remaining conference games, then the Tigers only have to win one of its final two games to finish in a three way tie. The Bulldogs wrap up league play Nov. 23 against Kentucky, a game where Mark Richt’s team should have little trouble.
If South Carolina and Georgia both lose, but the Bulldogs win the following week, then Mizzou will clinch the SEC East title because a three way tie will be guaranteed if the Tigers lose out.
With Florida injury riddled and facing a tough road test, it is unlikely it will walk out of Columbia, SC with a win. A Georgia win (although it is an underdog too) seems more likely than a Florida victory. In a nut shell, root for Georgia.
Take Georgia and Florida out of the equation and the Tigers still control their own destiny. If Missouri wins out it will find itself in the SEC Championship Game, but Mizzou and its fans would appreciate the extra help.
