(Missouri Football App) – Mizzou head coach Gary Pinkel is officially a candidate for coach of the year.

Pinkel is one of 16 semi-finalists for the 2013 Maxwell Football Club Collegiate Coach of the Year. The fact that Pinkel is under consideration for the honor is not surprising considering the type of season the Tigers have put together.  Pinkel’s squad currently sits at 9-1 and can earn a spot in the SEC Championship if it wins it final games against Ole Miss and Texas A&M.

The record has surprised practically everyone, especially because Missouri finished 2012 with a record of 5-7.

The winner of the award will be announced Dec. 17. You can learn more about the honor here.
