Thoughts on Mizzou's first SEC win

(Missouri Football App) -- It's a good thing Mizzou held on to beat Kentucky today. There might not be another SEC win on their schedule. The Tigers still have league games to play at Florida, Tennessee and Texas A&M. They'll be underdogs in all of those games.
At least Mizzou won't go winless in their first season in the nation's most difficult conference. It didn't look real good early, with Kentucky doing pretty much whatever it wanted to do on offense in the first quarter. Sheldon Richardson's strip of the ball, fumble recovery and long return was a huge play. Might have made a 14 point difference, with the Wildcats seemingly headed for a quick score. Instead, it was Mizzou scoring a few plays after the fumble and taking the lead.
I'm not sure I agree with Gary Pinkel's use of James Franklin in the third quarter. The Tigers were leading 17-10 when he entered the game. It felt like they had taken control of things with Corbin Berkstresser at quarterback. Franklin is coming off the knee injury and still not completely healed. It seemed like they were taking a big gamble on Franklin risking further injury. He made it through the final quarter and half without aggravating the injury, so it worked out all right at least.
Is it just me, or has most of the fun been taken out of this season? Just doesn't seem like there's much of a spark left in Tigers fans after those lopsided conference losses to Alabama, South Carolina and Georgia. The loss at home to Vanderbilt was also a major mood killer. We knew that the move to the Southeastern Conference would be difficult, but it's a shame it happened in a year where the Tigers have one of their weaker teams since Gary Pinkel arrived in 2001.
One more thing. At the risk of sounding like a grumpy old man, I have to say I hate these new uniforms. The Mizzou players looked like a yellow and black bumble bees today. If you couldn't see the small "Mizzou" lettering it'd be hard to tell what team you're looking at. That logo of the Tiger on the helmet is awful. There appears to be a feather coming out of the back of the Tiger's head. They just don't look like Missouri Tigers anymore. Give me those old Mizzou uniforms of the 1960's and 70's. Now that was a distinctive uniform. Simple and classy. That looked like Mizzou. They got to get rid of this new batch of bumble bee outfits.
