COLUMBIA, Mo. (Missouri Football App) -- Freshman center Brad McNulty has a tough task at hand when the Tigers take the field Saturday against #1 Alabama. Due to injuries on the offensive line, McNulty is filling-in and get his second-ever start, but this time it’s against the number 1 ranked team and top-ranked total defense in college football, the Alabama Crimson Tide.
McNulty started in the victory against Arizona State, but asking a freshman to lineup against NFL-caliber defensive linemen on Alabama is a hefty task.
“I’m a little nervous before every game,” said McNulty. “I don’t like to show that I get nervous, but you definitely get butterflies before every game. They’re a good team. They are really big up front and are extremely physical. We got to play our game and focus on fundamentals.”
Many fans have seen a YouTube video about an Alabama defensive lineman bench-pressing 600-pounds. Anyone with knowledge of weightlifting can appreciate how difficult it may be for freshman McNulty to line-up against the strong, senior Jesse Williams playing for Alabama.
“There’s a lot of strong guys out there,” said McNulty. “My early season experience against Arizona State will help. Any experience comes with confidence and we look forward to having another close game here in Columbia.”
The Tigers sit at 3-3 and look to get things back on the right track in the win-column. Mizzou’s chances of making it to a bowl game in 2012 continues to decrease as the losses rack-up. The schedule does not get any easier and it starts Saturday at 2:30 against Alabama.
