COLUMBIA, MO (Missouri Basketball App) - A pair of veterans combined for 39 points as the Tigers opened the season with a 83-69 victory over Southern Illinois Edwardsville (SIUE).

Phil Pressey scored 19 points and Laurence Bowers posted 20 points and seven rebounds. During an early stretch of the second half Bowers outscored the entire SIUE team 10-2.

The Tigers also got contributions from the bench. Newcomers Negus Webster-Chan and Stefan Jankovich pitched in with a combined 18 points. UCONN transfer Alex Oriakhi scored eight points and came down with 15 rebounds.

The Tigers were slow out of the gates and only led 40-34 at halftime. In the second half, the Tigers began to shoot the ball better. In the first half, they only shot 39 percent from the field, but finished with a shooting percentage of 47.

Mizzou won its 66th consecutive non-conference home game. The victory also marked the Tigers' 38th home opening win the last 39 seasons.

The Tigers host Alcorn State in their next contest on Monday night.
