COLUMBIA, MO (Missouri Basketball App) - A pair of freshmen led the way as Tigers cruised past Missouri Southern 86-60 in exhibition finale.
Guard Negus Webster-Chan and forward Stefan Jankovic combined for 34 points and 12 rebounds. Jankovic came off the bench but finished with 20 points shot 61 percent from the field. He made three shots from beyond the arc. Webster-Chan, who started for the first time, scored 14 points and shot 5-7 from the field.
"We all know Stefan's talent. You have to look at the big picture for our team. There's no Jabari (Brown) or Mike Dixon or Keion Bell and all three of those guys are going to play heavy minutes," Head Coach Frank Haith said. "He is a luxury because he is one of the better shooters on our team."
Earnest Ross and Laurence Bowers both chipped in with a combined 21 points. Bowers said the exhibition season has helped him feel more comfortable on the court after missing all of last season with a knee injury.
"I've been working my tail off to get to this moment, and these last two games, it definitely helped me out with my psyche," Bowers said. "Of course coming into it, I was wondering `how am I going to perform, how am I going to do this?' But getting those two games under my belt definitely made me feel like I'm a hundred percent."
Mizzou opens the regular season on Nov. 10 at home against Southern Illinois Edwardsville at 4 p.m.
