Missouri earned its fourth consecutive victory over Illinois in the series, its longest winning streak since winning four straight from 1991-94. The series is now led by Illinois 20-12 in St. Louis, but the series is tied 11-11 over the last 22 years.
Laurence Bowers once again led the Tigers, dropping in 23 points. Bowers has reached double figures in 10-of-11 games this season and has now topped 20 points four times this year.
Bowers added 10 rebounds to record his fourth double-double of the year.
Bowers scored 15 points in the first half, which is the most by a Tiger in the first half of a game this year. Bowers topped the 13 points scored by Phil Pressey in the season-opening win against SIUE. Bowers also owns the mark for most points scored in the second half with 18 in that same win over SIUE.
Alex Oriakhi recorded his fourth double-double of the season. Missouri has 11 total double-doubles in 2012-13, already more than the nine the team recorded during the entire 2011-12 season.
Oriakhi finished with 13 points and 14 rebounds, just off his season high of 15 rebounds.
Phil Pressey recorded the ninth double-digit assist game of his career and first of 2012-13.It was also the first time a Tiger has topped 10 dimes in the game since Melvin Booker vs. Illinois on Dec. 22, 1993. Pressey has four career double-doubles.
Bowers hit his 13th trey of the season, extending his career high. Bowers made 10 treys as a sophomore, but did not connect in eight tries as junior in 2010-11.
Jabari Brown scored a career high 18 points. Brown opened the game with 11 first half points and was 5-of-6 from the foul line. He also grabbed seven boards in his second game as a Tiger.
Missouri won the battle of the boards for the 11th consecutive game. The Tigers ripped down a season high 58 rebounds, including 22 on the offensive glass.
Frank Haith improved to 2-0 in the Bud Light Braggin’ Rights Game.
