In this Aug. 16, 2008 file photo, St. Louis Rams quarterback Trent Green throws during the second quarter of an NFL preseason football game against the San Diego Chargers in St. Louis. The 0-3 Rams announced Tuesday Sept. 23, 2008 that backup quarterback Trent Green will start this Sunday against the Buffalo Bills in St. Louis.

News 4 Sports Director Steve Savard says he is not surprised by the move, despite the fact that head coach Scott Linehan told him Monday that it would not happen.

Savard, the voice of the Rams, interviewed Linehan during his weekly “Coach Linehan Show”on 103.3 FM Monday evening.

Savard says that Linehan did not want to talk about Bulger specifically on or off the air, and gave no hint that Tuesday’s decision was imminent.

Linehan did say that anything that would give the team a spark would be considered.

Savard says Bugler’s performance in Sunday’s 39-13 loss to the Seahawks may have been the last straw.

“There is a feeling in Rams Park that more passes should have been completed,” says Savard. “It was easily the best protection that the offensive line has given the quarterback all season.”

Savard says the bottom line is that the Rams have to score points.  The defense is having trouble stopping people and the only way they are going to win is to score,”

Can Green provide the spark the Rams offense so desperately needs?

Savard says quarterback Trent Green has two things going for him.  He is a terribly accurate passer, and he knows this offense inside and out. ( Green's stats)

“Trent’s best years were in Kansas City with Al Saunders where he made two Pro Bowls.”

Green is a St. Louis native and attended Vianney High School.

stupid move not going to solve the real problem .

It's a start! But, that's not the only person responsible for this mess!

He needs a reality check. He's not as good as he thinks he is and never was.

too bad they can't fire him. That's ignorant that the highest paid player has no incentive to give his best effort to help pull the team out of the dumps. Fire him, and hire 5 others that want to win for the same money. He doesn't care if he rides the bench he gets paid the same. In fact the whole team can leave, let someone else pay for losers.

If Marc can't do the job put in somebody else, and then somebody else, and so on and on...

I remember when Kurt Werner was sidelined and was helping out, calling plays, etc. They talked to Bulger and he arrogantly said well, he'd do the same thing if he was ever sidelined, but it wasn't ever going to happen to him. I never liked him from that moment on. He is and never was a Kurt Werner and I'm glad to see what goes around, comes around. Go, Trent Green and we just may be saying Bulger who? We all remember Werner with fantastic memories and affection.

Who cares. it's going to take more than that to help the Rams. maybe they could bench the whole team, and replace them with High School football players. I'm sure even a peewee league would do better

Some change needed to be made. Is it all Bulger's fault? No, but someone needs to step up and lead this team. Usually that is the quarterback. He has been playing passionless football since last year, and that is not going inspire anyone to dig out of this current rut.

They probably need to fire the coach. The Rams have stunk since he came on board.

WAY TO GO RAMSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!

It's a start, there are many things wrong with the Rams including Management.

THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING OF SOLVING THEIR PROBLEMS.GET RID OF JACKSON COACHES AND DEFENSIVE LINE

My fantasy of seeing him carrying a clipboard will finally come true

Can we fire the whole Rams team and sign the Mizzou Football Team? Where's Mr. Chase Daniels when we need him?
If that can't happen then i say Good Luck to Trent. The JV team of the NFL can't possibly get any worse.

Bulger is a good quarterback but he needs a team and although I am an old woman I can see he doesn't have anyone to work with other than Terry Holt. Most of them just look like a bunch of sissies. Perhaps they should try Vollyball.

Bulgers inability to perform outside the pocket makes him unproductive. Especially since the front offensive line cannot hold back a glass of water long enough for him to set up. Maybe a few linemen need to join him on the bench.

Maybe he will regain consciousness!

He has not proven this year that he is the right guy for the job. His accuracy is off, he can not go deep, and he seems very nervous in the pocket. Granted the offensive line is not the greatest but you still have to be able make smart decsions by getting rid of the ball when there are no recievers open. Don't check down to Stephen Jackson when there are 3 guys ready to make that tackle. I do not think that this is going solve the problem. There are also other issues like our defense. You can not win games if your team has to play from behind all the time. Get rid of Jim Hasselet and I would like to see Linehan with some urgency. Overall. We need to build on our crumbling offense.

Good move, but they should have "benched" the coaching staff as well!

FINALLY! We need a quarterback and players that will play as a team, not a bunch of high paid football players. When Kurt Warner was on our team, the players seemed united. There has never been that sense of team playing since Bulger's been here. I'd love it if Kurt Warner could be hired to coach the Rams.
