(HockeyStL) -- The NHL released the upcoming schedule for the 2013-14 season, which includes a 17-day sabbatical for the Olympic games in Russia, on Friday.
The St. Louis Blues will start the regular season with a five-game homestand, including the season opener against the Nashville Predators on October 3. The Blues have three five-game homestands on the schedule.
The first road game of the season will come against the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks on October 17.
There will be a 17-day break for the Blues for the Olympic games in Sochi. The final game before the break will come February 8 against the Winnipeg Jets and the first game back will be February 26 at the Vancouver Canucks. The two-plus week break is similar to the one taken for the 2010 Olympics.
With the new conference alignment in effect, the Blues will have to wait to play the East-bound Detroit Red Wings until January 20. They will play the Red Wings again for the second, and only time at the Scottrade Center, at the season finale on April 13.
A total of 13 games this season are expected to be aired on the NBC Sports Network.
