(HockeyStL) -- The St. Louis Blues assigned Jake Allen to the AHL-affiliate Peoria Rivermen, the team announced on Saturday.

Allen was sent back down shortly before the official announcement of the Blues’ acquisition of defenseman Jordan Leopold from the Buffalo Sabres.

Brian Elliott was assigned to Peoria for conditioning purposes this week and is expected to rejoin the team after Saturday night’s game.

Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch posted a tweet stating the Blues will use the combination of Jaroslav Halak and Elliott for the rest of the season.

Allen was recalled when early season struggles hampered Elliott and Halak.

The 22-year-old goaltender posted an 8-3-0 record with a 2.45 goals against average and .906 save percentage in 12 games this season.
