(HockeyStL) – In his comments following the emotional Game 1 win over the Kings, head coach Ken Hitchcock said his team is good, but can be better.

Game assessment:

“I thought for the three periods we played a great hockey game we did the things we needed to do and played the way we needed to play.”

Playing tight:

“When they got that goal we probably tightened up a little bit and they showed why they win as they played with a little more confidence in the OT than we did.”

“I thought the overtime we probably played a little bit tight not too lose and they gained some confidence from it, so we are still learning how to win these big games.”

“You just got a feeling something bad might happen so you’re a little bit jittery with the puck… that’s something we will talk about. We just have to play. When we play we are a good team but when we get a head of ourselves and we worry about getting ahead of ourselves instead of playing the game… I think that is what teams that have the experience of winning do, they just play.”

Lessons learned:

“Waking up tomorrow would been a challenge if we didn’t win the hockey game… you hate to say things are must wins but for us we are hopefully going to gain a lot of confidence from this that we can compete with these guys and not just compete but win.”

“We are going to have to find a way to keep getting better and better as this series moves on because we know in that room they will.”

“We are going to have to find a way to keep getting better and better as this series moves on because we know in that room they will.”

“We are just getting started in this series.”
