(HockeyStL) -- It wasn’t the game the Blues, or goalie Jaroslav Halak, wanted coming off a 14-save shutout against the Red Wings on Saturday.
Halak was pulled in the second period when the Predators took a 3-2 lead after stopping only eight of the eleven shots faced. Two of the goals came on Predators power play attempts.
It marked the first time Halak had been taken out of a game since February 9, 2012. He surrendered three goals on 12 shots faced in a 4-3 shootout victory against the Devils.
Similar to that game, Elliott entered midway through and shut down the opposing offense immediately. He stopped all 13 shots faced and both of the Predators shootout attempts.
It was already determined prior to the game that Elliott will start against the Blackhawks on Tuesday night.
The unsuccessful night for Halak against the Predators was unfamiliar territory for the Czechoslovakian goalie. He entered Monday’s game with a career 1.71 goals-against average, .934 save percentage and three shutouts in 13 games against the Predators.
