(HockeyStL) -- The St. Louis Blues laid a smacking to the visiting Detroit Red Wings at the season-opener Saturday. Here are some interesting and noteworthy points to be made about the performance:
-The Blues fittingly scored six goals on the same night Cardinals legend Stan “The Man” Musial passed away. Musial, a first ballot Hall of Fame selection, wore No. 6.
-Blues goalie Jaroslav Halak became the first goalie in franchise history to record a shutout in the season-opener. Halak will start against the Predators on Monday.
-Forward Vladimir Tarasenko scored his first two goals of his NHL career in his first career game -- last player to do that: Jaden Schwartz on March 17, 2012. Click here to watch first goal | Second goal
-The Blues were four-for-five on the power play. The team took six power play shots.
-The Red Wings went zero-for-four on the power play and had only five power play shots.
-Only one of the Blues’ six goals was scored on even strength -- it was the first goal scored in the game. It was scored by Vladimir Tarasenko 6:36 into the first period.
-Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard allowed five goals on 28 shots and was pulled in the third period. He did not allow more than four goals in a single game in 57 games played last season.
-Chris Stewart scored two goals -- it was his first multi-goal game since December 26, 2011 against the Stars. He had 15 goals in 79 games played last season.
-The Blues outshot the Red Wings 36-14.
-On January 19 of last year, the Blues beat the Oilers 1-0. It was game No. 46 of the 2011-12 season. One year later, the lockout forced January 19 to be opening night in the NHL.
